Faith is Forced Consent not a spiritual apprehension without proof
Apologetics is a Biblical Command not a suggestion, but our Duty

"We may have begun our journey fairly convinced Jesus was a "good man," but as we considered the evidence we were forced in a different direction. We certainly did not set out predisposed to believe. So, we find ourselves agreeing with this statement"Faith is forced consent. That is to say, when the evidence is judged by the mind to be sufficient, the state of mind we call 'faith' is the inevitable effect whenever the reasons are judged sufficient, faith or belief is induced."    John Murray Collected Writings II

Not just Information is needed, but Regeneration

"Christianity is the only major religion to have as its central event the humiliation of its God."    Bruce L. Shelley

Why would the gospel accounts have their God endure such a thing, unless of course , it really happened and the shame and humiliation was taken by the Son of God who gave himself freely for the redemption of humanity in love?

"The plea for Christians to surrender to neutrality in their thinking is not an uncommon one. Nevertheless, it strikes at the very heart of our faith and of our faithfulness to the Lord... If the Christian is to have any success in defending the faith they must be prepared to call into question the competence of the unbeliever's thinking. Even if a believer does not have impressive credentials of educated scholarship possessed by the unbeliever, he is able to do this."   Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen

  • First, we are defending Biblical theism, not every Christian that has ever lived, nor their actions or theology.        We do not believe there exists an unambiguous notion of theism. Nor, are we defending religion in general.

  • Secondly, our concern is the truth of atheism or theism. Not psychological motivations, subjective desires, social functions, or the personal character of the theist of atheist. The truth about God's existence either way may be plesant or unplesant, useful or counterproductive, corrupting or ennobling to some, but regardless, whatever the truth is, it remains the truth.

  • Thirdly, our argument need not be accepted by everyone to be valid/conclusive. We must distinguish between proof and persuasion. Personal persuasion is subjectively qualified, proof is not. Objective proof is objective.
The Immorality of Neutrality

We believe the existence of the Biblical God is today a stark objective reality, rationally and factually provable beyond any reasonable doubt. The only escape for an atheist/agnostic/skeptic today is to suppress and reject this obvious truth.  But, what about us? When we talk to others about Jesus, is He a stark objective reality? Is that what they hear?

The Apostle Peter instructs believers that they should be "always ready to give a defense [apologia] to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you."  1 Peter 3:15   It's us, not just the Boy Scouts who need to be prepared.

The Scope and Limit of our Argument

"Men often speak as though the only thing that the sinner needs is true information. This is not the case. Man indeed, needs true interpretation, but, he also needs to be made a new creature. Sin is not only misinformation, it is also a power of perversion of the soul. The Christian knows that he would interpret nature wrongly due to the sin that is within him, unless he be enlightened by Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit.... All men do their thinking on the basis of a position accepted by faith, and your faith is either in God or in yourself and your own reasoning."                 Dr. Corneiius Van Til

Existence of the Biblical God is an Objective Historical Reality

.Our most frequent battle isn't with good and evil, t's between truth and lies. Without the ability to differentiate what is true, you cannot win. Every person on the planet walks around with opinions based on what they think they know, and those opinions direct how we act and react to "truth."  But very few of us ever question the accuracy of our fondational opinions (our epistemology, how we know what we know). From the very nature of truth itself, whether it exists, how our world began, is there a God, what is morality and who is moral, from atheism to God... our entire worldview runs on what we foundationally believe to be objectively true. And what is truth? Read  John 18:33-38

Q. What evidence is there for macroevolution?
A. We're told dogmatically that evolution is an established fact, but we're never told who established it or by what means. We're told often enough that the doctrine is founded upon evidence, and that, indeed, this evidence is henceforth above all verification, as well as being immune from any subsequent contradiction by experience. But we're left entirely in the dark on the crucial question wherein precisely this evidence consists. The salient fact is this, if by evolution, we mean macroevolution, then it can be said with the utmost rigor that the doctrine is totally bereft of scientific sanction. To be sure, given the multitude of extravagant claims about evolution promulgated by evolutionists with an air of scientific infallibility, this may sound strange. Yet, the fact remains, that there exists to this day not a shred of bona fide scientific evidence in support of the thesis that macroevolutionary transformations have ever occurred.  Tielhardism by Dr. Wolfgang Smith

What duty does God require of man?

The duty which God requireth of man is obedience to his revealed will.

Without a solid catechism, many of us are without understanding.

Without understanding, how can we ever hope to defend the faith?

Without understanding, how can we hope to glorify and enjoy Him?

A solid catechism and creed is the best place to start in apologetics.

Why do you choose to believe the Bible?
"I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses  during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophesies, and claim that their writings are divine, rather than human in origin."    Voddie Baucham

This is my Father's world....

We teach the literal, grammatical, historical interpretation of Scripture which affirms the belief that the opening chapters of Genesis present creation in six literal days (Genesis 1:31; Exodus 31:17), describe the special creation of man and woman (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:5-25), and define marriage as between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5).

what about all the evil, pain and suffering in the world?

God has a good and moral reason for everything He does or permits, including the yet undisclosed reason for the temporary existence of evil. God did not create evil, He permits it to exist for His glory. All that He creates or ordains to occur is for the ultimate good of those who love Him. A sinful, finite creature in rebellion against the infinite Holy God is not qualified, nor competent to sit in judgment as to whether God has a good and morally acceptable reason for evil to exist. God will destroy evil in His good time, when it has served His divine purpose.   Read more...

So, you choose to believe the Bible...

We are commonly asked for a clarification of R.C. Sproul’s position on Creation.
Here is his commentary on the Westminster Confession’s phrase “…in the space of six days.”
In the beginning, to create, make of nothing, the world, and all things therein  visible or invisible, in the space of six days; and all very good. In the Genesis account of creation, we read; “So the evening and the morning were the first day”  (Gen. 1:5).
This narrative proceeds from the first day to the sixth, each time referring to “the evening and the morning” and numbering the day. On the seventh day, God rested  (Gen. 2:2).

"An institution has to decide, and it's not just an option it's a responsibility, how much diversity can be tolerated."

"Humanity is involved in a massive universal conspiracy to supress the truth of God in unrighteousness."

R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

"If God created in six literal days about 6,000 years ago, He could not have been more clear in His Word so that people in every culture in every century, regardless of education or age, would be able to understand. Conversely, if God created by guiding the processes of the big bang and evolution or by periodic supernatural acts over millions of years, then He guided Moses to write the most misleading account imaginable. But the infinitely wise God of truth and Creator of language is not so incompetent, nor does He mislead His people." .

"God did create in six literal days about 6,000 years ago. He said so. Clearly."   Dr. Terry Mortenson

If you try to avoid the antithetical position that God sovereignly set in place between the believer and unbeliever, your best efforts will only confuse the issue all the more. The difference between your worldview offers you a critical advantage in an information age where one must scream to be heard. Don't hide the difference trying to be neutral.   The issue is moral not intellectual. Darwin said looking at the eye made him cold, a peacock feather made him sick. They know that to follow Christ they would have to give up their self-determination to be the Captain of their fate. They've been deceived, just like we were before we were saved. So pray earnestly and fervently for them.

Fervent Intercessory Prayer is The Most Powerful Weapon in Apologetics!

Unfortunately, all too often it's the least used. To intercede for the eternal welfare of another, is to ask for something dear and precious to God's heart. We will never be more like Christ than when we intercede for another in prayer.

So pray for every person you are  witnessing to. That's where the power resides. Pray the Lord will use you to at least move them one step closer to Christ.  Pray aloud that they may be saved, and remember to maintain eye contact.

The simple Means of Grace and Truth
Conformity to the Scriptures and the blessing of God are the keys to rescuing our youth. The Scripture does identify the way to reach the next generation with the gospel — biblical discipleship. Through his journey, Leclerc asks questions, tackles problems, and discovers that the Bible is sufficient for the area of youth ministry: both in the content as well as in the methodology.
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”    Malachi 4:5-6
